Arsenal have met with Nico Williams’s agent ahead of a move in the summer transfer window, with new director of football Andrea Berta leading the charge.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that Arsenal are in the running for the Athletic Bilbao forward.
According to their information, Arsenal’s new sporting director Andrea Berta met with Nico Williams agent in the last few days.
The meeting was simply an opportunity to discuss the player and a potential future together and it’s not clear if anything further happened. In other words, Berta has opened the talks, but they are to be continued.
Arsenal’s interest in the Spanish star is nothing new as they’ve been eyeing him for the best part of a year, particularly after his performances for Spain at Euro 2024.
They’ll have to pay big for the 22-year-old as Athletic Bilbao have no intention of letting him go cheaply. The player has always insisted he is happy with the club too so may need convincing.
There will also be plenty of competition as Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain are in the mix and Bayern Munich could also move if the circumstances are right.
Arsenal are planning a big summer after Berta’s arrival, though, and it appears he’s already set about setting up what would be a major transfer.
