During the Fulham game, Mikel Merino took the lead for the Gunners as he continues to play up front in place of the injured Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.
Arsenal then went 2-0 up thanks to a goal from Saka, who scored just six and a half minutes after coming on as a substitute for the first time since mid-December when he suffered a severe hamstring injury.
Saka’s celebration was heartfelt as he ran over to embrace the backroom staff that helped him recover, and he now hopes to keep his momentum going heading into the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid next week.
After the game, Saka posted “Like we never left…thank you” on his Instagram feed, and a plethora of Arsenal players and celebrities reacted to the post.
Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard replied with a heart emoji, and midfielder Merino replied by saying “Happy for you my man”. Former Arsenal academy product and Crawley Town striker Tyreece John-Jules simply replied “Wow”.
What did Mikel Arteta say?
After the game manager Mikel Arteta had his post-match interview. He told BBC Sport: “It was a good moment. When you have the opportunity to feel how much people appreciate and love you, it was a good moment.”
Arteta was asked about what it says about Saka and the club considering that he ran over to the fitness staff following his goal. He replied: “Very good, these kids are very appreciative of everything that they do for him.
“The staff as well, the sacrifice [they made], they put in a lot of work, and it was a good moment as well – it says a lot about the person behind the player.”
