Everton have turned things around since David Moyes returned to Goodison Park as manager.

Although they are not mathematically safe, the Toffees are now 17 points clear of the Premier League relegation zone, despite being just one point clear when the Scotsman arrived.

With The Friedkin Group having completed their takeover of the Blues, supporters in Merseyside will be looking ahead to the new era that is to come under Moyes.

Idrissa Gana Gueye targets Everton success

Everton have raised their standards under the management of Moyes and new ownership, no one could blame supporters for feeling more optimistic about what the future may bring.

Before turning their attentions to next season though, the Blues can finish this season on a high, carrying on their unbeaten run of nine games.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

It will not be an easy task though, as they return from international duty to face Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Wednesday (2 April).

Idrissa Gana Gueye has played a big part in the season, and his side will be looking to replicate some of the magic that was produced at Goodison Park in a 2-2 draw earlier in the season.

The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season but could extend his stay with Everton, as he looks ahead to the future already.

Speaking to Everton, Gueye said: “Of course, we want to get back to when we were playing in Europe, and it’s been a long time since we won a trophy. These are all things we want, but first of all, let’s focus on winning games and make sure we are a Premier League team next season.

“We need to fight for something for the club because they deserve it, and the fans deserve it. You see Newcastle win a trophy this season – I didn’t see the videos because I was playing with the national team, but I saw some pictures afterwards, and we want to create this type of moment.”

Everton ready for better times ahead

With a move to Bramley-Moore Dock approaching at the end of the campaign, Everton will be keen to make the transition in good form and looking ahead optimistically.

It certainly seems as though that will be the case, given how well Moyes’ second start to life in Merseyside has been so far.

TFG are expected to back the boss in the summer transfer window giving the Scotsman the opportunity to bring new faces into the fold that can push his side further up the league.

Nevertheless, some of the existing squad will be part of that new era too, and Gueye is one man who is likely to extend his time in blue and aim higher.

Gueye for Everton this season.

Newcastle have shown the positive effect that new owners can have on a team and there are plenty of players in that side who have benefited from new management and ambition to push them on.

If Gueye wants to do what the Magpies have done and bring a trophy to the Blue part of Merseyside, a victory against Liverpool on Wednesday could certainly show a sign towards that progression on the pitch.
