A New York Knicks insider predicts when Jalen Brunson should return to the floor, and it is very soon.
March was a difficult month for the Knicks. It included a big five-game West Coast trip — never preferred late in the season — and several matchups with top-flight squads like the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors. At full health, the month would have been a real test, but it was made even more difficult because the team was without their top star and captain.
In their March 7 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, All-Star guard Jalen Brunson suffered a nasty ankle sprain that has sidelined him ever since. With him out of commission, New York had an 8-4 record as they looked to keep pace with the top teams in the conference.
As the weeks have fallen off the calendar, fans have wondered when their favorite player would return and if it would come before the playoffs.
Jalen Brunson stats (2024-25): 26.3 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 7.4 APG, 1.0 SPG, 39% 3PT
When will Jalen Brunson return to New York Knicks starting lineup?
Brunson suggested to the media last week that he would like to return before the regular season comes to a close on April 13. But that being cautious and waiting until the postseason was not out of the question. Well, it looks like Knicks fans won’t have to wait long to see Brunson back in the lineup, according to SNY NBA insider Ian Begley.
“On the injury front, I think this weekend is a realistic timeframe for Jalen Brunson’s return from injury,” Begley wrote. “Brunson has been out with a right ankle sprain since March 8. The Knicks play in Atlanta on Saturday and host Phoenix on Sunday. Based on the current trajectory, I’d expect Brunson to return during one of those games.”
The Knicks won’t have him when they play the conference’s top team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, on Wednesday night. However, if he is back by this weekend, it will mean they will have their top star in some big upcoming matchups against the Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons, and the Cavaliers again to end the season.
