Just as he had done in the [Champions League](https://www.sbnation.com/champions-league) quarter-finals with a decisive penalty, the German center-back delivered in the Copa del Rey semi-final against Real Sociedad, scoring the winning goal in extra time to book Madrid’s place in yet another final.
Having started the game on the bench due to rotation, Rüdiger entered in extra time and immediately made his presence felt. His leadership and defensive stability helped Madrid regain control in a tense and physically demanding match. But it was his attacking contribution that stole the headlines.
With penalties looming at the Santiago Bernabéu, the German international rose to the occasion—literally. A well-placed corner kick from substitute Arda Güler found Rüdiger, who soared above the Sociedad defense and powered home a thunderous header to send the Madrid fans behind the goal into delirium.
