GUANTÁNAMO, Cuba, Apr 1 (ACN) Intended to promote pediatric care throughout the month by means of scientific, educational and community events, the campaign Un abril por la pediatría (April for pediatrics) kicked off at a children’s hospital in the city of Guantánamo.
According to Dr. Maidolis Tirado Soler, who chairs the provincial group in charge of pediatric care services, the goal of the campaign is to renew the said services, boost health promotion to deal with teenage problems, and arouse interest in this specialty―provided to individuals until the age of 18―through scientific workshops, meetings with adolescents, and the future launching of a pediatric journal.
The specialist also referred to major events such as the community projects Pequeños Científicos (Little scientists), where elementary school children will display medicine-related skills as part of a strategy to develop in them a calling to study medical sciences, and Abejitas Reina (Little queen bees), to approach teenage pregnancy through talks with very young and therefore at-risk pregnant women.
These events organized in the province of Guantánamo are part of the national strategy designed by the Ministry of Public Health and coordinated by the Provincial Pediatrics Group and the Mother-and-Child Program to improve children and teenagers’ health indicators.
