Newly appointed Arsenal sporting director, Andrea Berta, has already begun working on crucial transfer deals ahead of the summer window. Berta, who was only confirmed in his role a few days ago, has moved swiftly to meet with representatives of one of Arsenal’s top targets as the club looks to strengthen its squad for the upcoming season.
The Gunners received a significant boost in attack with the return of Bukayo Saka, who marked his comeback from a long-term hamstring injury with a goal against Fulham. Saka had been sidelined since December 21, and his return provides much-needed reinforcement for Mikel Arteta’s squad, which has been hampered by injuries.
Arsenal’s frontline has suffered setbacks, with Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz both ruled out for the remainder of the season. As a result, securing attacking reinforcements is a top priority for the club this summer as they aim to become title contenders after three seasons of steady progress.

According to a report fromFoot Mercato, Berta has already met with the agent of Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, who has been attracting interest from multiple European clubs. Williams’ representative has reportedly held discussions regarding a potential move, as the Spanish international continues to be linked with a switch to the Premier League.
Williams was heavily rumoured to leave Bilbao last summer following an impressive Euro 2024 campaign with Spain. Barcelona were keen to bring him to the Camp Nou, while Paris Saint-Germain, seeking to bolster their attack following Kylian Mbappé’s departure, also pursued the talented winger. However, he opted to stay with his boyhood club for another season.

Berta has taken proactive steps by meeting with Williams’ agent in anticipation of a possible summer transfer. The winger remains a coveted target for several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool and Chelsea, increasing the competition for his signature.
Williams gained international recognition with his performances at Euro 2024, where he played a key role for Spain and notably scored twice, including in the final against England. Given his talent and rising profile, many expected him to leave Athletic Club last summer, but a transfer did not materialise.
Speaking in a press conference earlier this week, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta acknowledged the need to “increase the quality” of his squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
If Arsenal are to secure Williams’ services, they will need to meet his release clause of £47 million, making him an attainable but significant investment for the Gunners.
