Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has addressed the contract situation of Marc Guehi, whose Palace deal expires at the end of next season.
We exclusively revealed on the 15th of March that Liverpool held discussions with Marc Guehi’s representatives earlier that week, signaling their intent to bolster their defensive options ahead of a crucial summer transfer window.
The talks – spanning several days – were thought to be centred around Marc Guehi. But it could be that the meeting was about Anthony Gordon as they share the same agency.
Marc Guehi is poised for a summer departure from Crystal Palace as his contract enters its final 12 months, compelling the club to capitalize on his value amid intense Premier League interest.
Palace rejected multiple bids—including Tottenham’s £70m offer in January 2025 and Newcastle’s £65m bid in the summer of 2024.
Palace’s resolve is further tested by a 20% sell-on clause owed to Chelsea, incentivizing a competitive auction. With suitors aware of Palace’s dwindling leverage, a summer sale—likely exceeding £70m—appears inevitable to avoid financial fallout.
And now manager Oliver Glasner has hardly put forth a strong position that the England international would be remaining at the club past this season.
Speaking in his pre-Southampton press conference, as quoted by News Shopper, the Austrian has adopted a wait-and-see mentality on the situation:
“We haven’t just started talking about his contract,” he began.
“The talks were going on even before I arrived – for more than two years now. Marc is thinking what is best for his personal career and this is what we have to accept.”
“I don’t know (if he will sign a new deal). I don’t think about what happens in summer.”
“On the 26th of May, I will turn my phone off for one or two weeks and then we will see what happens.”
Glasnder added that it was ultimately Guehi’s decision at the end of the day:
“Everybody knows he is a great footballer and great character. Let’s see what happens. Of course, no manager would want to lose their captain. It will be Marc’s decision, but I know that he is so focused on improving his game and our game.
“It has no influence on his performances.”
