The only Derby with a number, the Merseyside Derby (number 246), will kickoff at Anfield tonight. Liverpool have gotten the better of their bitter and blue neighbors at Anfield in recent years, having won the last 7* over their local rivals.
Arsenal were able to cut Liverpool’s lead down to 9 points last night, but Liverpool can once again extend that to 12 points on the same number of games played. The reality of the league picture is exactly the same as it was before the international break: Liverpool will win the league if they reach 86 points, or 5 wins and a draw in their remaining 9 matches. Alternatively, if they win their five home matches (including against Arsenal), they will be crowned champions.
It’s looking good for the Reds, and they can take a big step toward #20 with a win over The Blues tonight.
