David Moyes has performed wonders since his return to Everton as manager to replace Sean Dyche.

Although the Blues were just one point above relegation upon Moyes‘ arrival, after going nine games unbeaten, they now sit 17 points clear of the bottom three.

Many supporters will now be looking ahead to the end of the season, ready to kick on with a move to Bramley-Moore Dock, under new owners and the hope of better times ahead.

Simon Jordan makes Moyes admission

The Toffees have suffered from a difficult few seasons in the Premier League, and Dyche’s exit from Goodison Park was as much about fatigue in a general sense as it was about the results on the board.

Moyes was expected to improve things, but the level at which he has done that at Everton has been staggering, and he has received plenty of plaudits for his work.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Due to the improved form, supporters will now be looking ahead to the summer transfer window.

The Friedkin Group are likely to put more money behind the manager in their first proper window and as the Blues prepare to start life in a new stadium as a top flight team, high ambitions have been listed.

Simon Jordan has admitted that the move could be vital for Everton’s progression, but the project could take time after what he was told by George Downing, especially when buying players.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (2 April, 12:44 pm), the former Crystal Palace owner said: “But the challenge for Everton is, are they out of the woods with this again? The eternal challenge is, do they have the bandwidth to buy players?

“The stadium, I remember talking to George Downing who is my friend who was at one point going to buy Everton and they were so, the preservation of the development of the stadium was so intricate to the opportunity of Everton to be able to increase their revenues, increase the enabling of the stadium to be able to make a significant amount of money to kick on and that was protected by the money George lent to the club and George got it back from Friedkin.

“So here we are now with a new stadium, a new opportunity. I still think there’ll be some drag-and-tag effects from the previous years where they’ve lost money, but they should now be in a better order. Will David take them to the promised land? Will he have the same challenges as before?”

When asked if he could replicate the success he experienced at West Ham, winning a European trophy, Jordan replied: “It’s a big ask. The aim and the achievement are two different things.”

Everton have to keep expectations in line

You can certainly understand why there is plenty of excitement in Merseyside ahead of this new era, especially after what the supporters have had to go through of late.

The idea of being able to actually go into the market and spend money on players is in itself, a bonus from the last few seasons and it should give Moyes the resources to improve his side.

The 2024/25 Premier League season has shown that any team can have the opportunity to push towards the top of the table and with that in mind, why shouldn’t the Toffees be aiming for success?

However, many will know that this is a long-term project too, and if success doesn’t come overnight, you can’t imagine there’ll be too much loud protest.

As Jordan highlights, the move to Bramley-Moore Dock is going to be an essential part of Everton’s growth as the new stadium increases footfall as well as providing other revenue streams which can then be reinvested.

Moyes has shown positive signs so far, and the future is something to be excited about, but progress will have to come at a steady pace.
