Newcastle United will get a first-hand look at one of their summer transfer targets.

Bryan Mbeumo is expected to start for Brentford at St James’ Park tonight. He was left out of the starting line-up when the Bees were beaten 3-1 by the Magpies in the Carabao Cup quarter-final in December.

The 25-year-old came off the bench to set up Yoane Wissa’s consolation goal. A couple of weeks earlier, Mbeumo started and scored the opener as United suffered a 4-2 league defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Mbeumo is Brentford’s top scorer this campaign with 15 goals - only Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak and Chris Wood have scored more. It is little wonder he has been linked with a move elsewhere with Newcastle, Liverpool and Arsenal among the clubs said to be interested.

Bryan Mbeumo’s price tag

The winger is reportedly valued between £50million to £60m, though it is not yet clear if any clubs will bite at that price.

While the recent sales of Elliot Anderson, Yankuba Minteh, Miguel Almiron and soon Lloyd Kelly have put Newcastle in a strong position regarding Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), sporting director Paul Mitchell is keen to avoid paying premium prices for Premier League players.

Last summer, Mitchell was tasked with signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi but refused to meet the £70m asking price. Like the centre-back position, a right forward is high on Newcastle’s transfer list with only Jacob Murphy the recognised option after Almiron’s departure to Atlanta United in January.

But Mbeumo isn’t the only player Eddie Howe’s side are looking at with PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko, Chelsea’s Noni Madueke and AFC Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo also of interest.

Bryan Mbeumo already advised to join Newcastle United

If Newcastle do swoop for Mbeumo then the player has already been urged to make the move to the North East by Romauld Eteki, an agent for Promosport and sports consultant for CRTV Sports in Cameroon.

“Bryan Mbeumo has many suitors this season, thanks to his performances,” Eteki said, as per Sport Witness. “The names of Liverpool, to compensate for a future departure of Salah, or Arsenal are often mentioned.

“However, I think Newcastle would be a good destination for him. First of all, he would pass an obvious level. Newcastle has been fighting for European places for two years, which is not the case for Brentford.

“In addition, at Newcastle, he would certainly arrive in the shoes of an undisputed starter because on the right side of the team, there is not a player who stands out.

“However, at Arsenal where Saka is unshakeable on the right or at Liverpool where succeeding Salah, the best player in the championship, the expectations would therefore be very high. Which can add additional pressure.”

What’s been said about Bryan Mbeumo’s future?

Frank has previously admitted Mbeumo will go on to play for a bigger club, while the player himself has spoken about his ambitions to play at the very top level.

He said last year: “I have spent five years at Brentford, at a club that has allowed me to grow and pass a milestone but yes, I would like to play in the biggest competitions, at the best clubs. It is tantalising to see some big clubs interested in me. We will see.”
