Norwich City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup admits the club cannot afford to sign Callum Doyle but advised him to make a permanent move this summer.
Norwich City still have plenty to play for this season as they hope to secure a play-off place come May. With seven games remaining, NCFC are in 10th and sit just five points adrift of the top six.
The Canaries have had a patchy campaign and with that comes inconsistent performers in their squad. However, one man who has had a great year is Manchester City loanee Callum Doyle.

Many fans will have hoped, perhaps ambitiously, for a permanent return of Doyle this summer.
Sadly for them, Norwich City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup has confirmed that is unlikely given the price tag involved. Speaking to the Pink Un though, the Dane advised him to make a permanent move next.
He said: “There’s a price tag that is probably a little bit too difficult for us.
“I hope, without being his agent or supervisor or anything like that, that his next step is a club where he will be for two, three or four years.”
He went on to suggest that he does not like the idea of young players moving clubs year on year.

“I don’t think it’s ideal for a young player to change clubs every season. He’s tried to be clever about his decisions and find clubs where they’re a little bit similar in how they play the game, so it’s not too different.
“But it’s never ideal to go from club to club every summer and find a new environment with new teammates, and everything is brand new.”
Time for the Premier League?
NCFC loan man Doyle has been a top talent with Manchester City for years now. He already has two promotions under his belt, one from League One with Sunderland and one from the Championship with Leicester City.

Coming through at City has left Doyle ready-made for the Premier League when it comes to his ability on the ball. These last three years in the Championship will be what makes him as a player though.

Doyle’s future may not be with Manchester City but it is inevitable that he plays in the Premier League at some point in the near future. At 21 years old this summer could be the time the left-sided defender finds himself a permanent home just as the Norwich City boss hopes.
Having earned his first promotion through the play-offs with Sunderland, Doyle has the task of repaying the faith put him in by doing it again with Norwich City. However, he faces an uphill battle to do so this season.
NCFC face Burnley and his former side Sunderland in their final seven games, along with fellow play-off chasers Middlesbrough and Millwall. They likely need to win at the very least two of those games to stand a chance of a top-six finish.

Considering they also play three of the sides facing a relegation battle as well, they face a very difficult task to secure a play-off place for a second consecutive year.
