Seahawks Predicted to Pair Sam Darnold with 5-Time Pro Bowl WR

The Seattle Seahawks have undergone some major changes this offseason, with some of the biggest coming to the wide receiver group after trading DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers and releasing Tyler Lockett.

Both are certainly considering it eliminates two reliable targets for quarterback Sam Darnold, who the team signed to a three-year, $100.5 million deal, keeping him with the team through the 2027 season.

To help ensure that Darnold still has options to throw to, Brad Gagnon predicts that the Seahawks will sign free-agent wide receiver Amari Cooper, who in his 10-year career has been named to five Pro Bowls.

There's no doubt that Cooper is coming off a down year with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills, hitting career lows in targets (89), receptions (44), yards (547) and touchdowns (four).

However, if he could return to being the same player who has eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in seven different seasons, then he could be a steal for the Seahawks, as Spotrac places his market value at $18.9 million annually.

It's also not as though Cooper would be expected to come in and become Darnold's top target, as that role is presumably filled by Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who in 2024 had 100 receptions, 1,130 yards, and six touchdowns.

Instead, he could find himself fighting to become Darnold's second option against Cooper Kupp, who the Seahawks also signed in free agency on a three-year, $45 million deal.
