Report: Manchester United have joined Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s AC Milan in race to sign £21m Belgium international

Manchester United signed Patrick Dorgu during the January transfer window, but may still add another left wing back for Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim has brought his 3-4-2-1 approach to Manchester United, which places a real focus on the input from wing backs.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui started the season as full backs but have been forced to adapt to new roles under Amorim.

United recruited Patrick Dorgu as the left wing back of the future during the January window, luring the Danish talent away from Lecce.

Dorgu didn’t impress United fans against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night, but has shown some potential since his January arrival.

United may still need another left wing back as competition for Dorgu moving forward, and a new name has now been linked.

Manchester United join race to sign Maxim De Cuyper

United looked at re-signing Alvaro Fernandez in January, and the Benfica talent may still be on the Old Trafford radar.

Tuttosport in Italy now claim that United are looking towards Belgium with Club Brugge star Maxim De Cuyper on the radar.

The report claims that Juventus are looking towards De Cuyper in case Andrea Cambiaso leaves the club this summer.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and AC Milan are thought to be keen too, but the report claims that United are ‘always lurking’ in the race for De Cuyper’s signature.

RB Leipzig are in the mix as well, with Club Brugge seeking up to €25million (£21million) for De Cuyper’s signature.

United have been looking at Senne Lammens and may well have been drawn to De Cuyper whilst studying the Royal Antwerp goalkeeper.

United have even looked at Ardon Jashari, De Cuyper’s teammate at Club Brugge, so Belgium could be a key market for United this summer.

De Cuyper has emerged in the Club Brugge ranks but has only become a first-team star over the course of the last two seasons.

Spells with Club NXT – Club Brugge’s second – and two years on loan with Westerlo helped De Cuyper develop his game.

That loan spell was especially important, with De Cuyper racking up 15 goals and 12 assists in 68 appearances.

Now shining for Club Brugge, De Cuyper has notched three goals and six assists in all competitions this season.

The 24-year-old caught the eye in Club Brugge’s Champions League campaign, playing every single minute as the Belgian side reached the last 16.

United now appear to be keen, potentially viewing De Cuyper as ideal competition for Dorgu on the left side without breaking the bank.
