Enzo Maresca Says Chelsea Star "Could Do Better" Amid Man United Loan Agreement

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has said that winger Jadon Sancho “could do better” this season with his loan spell set to end in June.

Sancho joined on loan from Manchester United in the summer transfer window after it was revealed that he wasn’t wanted at Old Trafford. He joined with an obligation for Chelsea to buy him for between £20m and £25m based on performance.

However, it emerged last month that there is a cancellation clause in Sancho’s deal at Chelsea, meaning he could return to Man United, however, the Blues would have to pay a fee to the Red Devils for the privilege.

Amid the clause, Chelsea boss Maresca was asked about Sancho’s future and his performances this season for the Blues. He told BBC Sport: “This isn’t the moment to think about next season. I’m completely focused about nine games, two months to go, I’m completely focused about that. Then what happens in summer, we’ll see.

“The Jadon situation doesn’t change. In terms of numbers, he could do better, no doubt. It is not just about Jadon but we have more players in the same situation.

“I don’t need to give Jadon a message because I speak with him every day. He is just motivated to be at his best until the end.”

How does Sancho’s performances compare to Chelsea wingers?

Sancho has made 29 appearances for Chelsea since joining in the summer transfer window, scoring two goals and providing seven assists for the Blues.

He last scored in Chelsea’s 4-3 win against Tottenham in mid-December, and will be desperate to get back on the scoresheet. He has been in rotation with Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto, who have scored eight and five goals respectively this season.
