The Kansas City Chiefs are making it their mission to ruin everyone's Christmases from here on out. According to Nate Taylor and Daniel Popper of [_The Athletic_](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6248441/2025/04/02/chiefs-chargers-brazil-christmas-day/?utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=twhq&source=twitterhq), "When it comes to domestic stand-alone games, the Chiefs have requested that the NFL make them a fixture on Christmas Day, according to a league source. The Chiefs, who have [played on Christmas Day](https://arrowheadaddict.com/posts/how-many-times-have-the-chiefs-played-on-christmas-day-01hj1rns2esa) the past two seasons, want to be a staple on that holiday, similar to the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day."
This would not be something that the rest of the NFL would enjoy considering how much people hate the Chiefs these days. As noted in the blurb, the Chiefs have already grown accustomed to playing on Christmas Day, having played on it the past two years (losing to the Raiders in 2023 and winning against the Steelers this past year).
Chiefs want to be a "fixture on Christmas Day"
----------------------------------------------
Chiefs fans might not love this idea so much. Christmas is a day spent with family and it's nice to not have to stress out about anything, which is the exact opposite of what Chiefs games bring for the fans. With pretty much every game coming down to the wire, having to deal with that on a holiday every year sounds less than ideal for Chiefs Kingdom.
That being said, the Chiefs are the big dogs in the NFL right now so it wouldn't be surprising if their wish was granted here. They could become a mainstay on Christmas Day in the same way that the Lions and Cowboys are on Thanksgiving.
The difference between playing on Christmas and Thanksgiving is that Christmas rotates which day of the week it's on every year, which could make the scheduling a pain in the butt. For instance, this past season, the Chiefs had to play on a Wednesday and to make up for it, their previous game was on a Saturday, but it was still the same turnaround as a Sunday to Thursday game.
I could see both sides of this Christmas Day thing. On the one hand, it would be fun to hang out with loved ones and watch our favorite team. On the other hand, it might be nice to enjoy the Christmas festivities without the stress of watching K.C. fend off their opponent until the final few minutes.
The haters will certainly be opposed to having to watch the Chiefs on Christmas Day every year and that's pretty funny to think about. Will they be holly jolly or Grinches when/if this decision is finalized?
