Diogo Dalot's agent sends warning to Ruben Amorim ahead of transfer window, Man Utd star fully committed to the cause

Diogo Dalot has made more appearances for Manchester United this season than most of his teammates, and his agent claims he is fully committed to the cause at Old Trafford.

The Portugal international has had a topsy-turvy campaign, like many of his Manchester United teammates, but he remains one of the first names on the teamsheet every week.

Ruben Amorim has called upon Diogo Dalot to change his full as an inverted full-back to a wing-back. It has been of benefit to Amorim that his compatriot is versatile enough to play on either flank because United’s first-team is not blessed with wing-backs.

That is why United signed Patrick Dorgu from Leece in January. The Denmark international is best utilised at left wing-back, but he can also play on the right – like Dalot – although it is already evident that he is superior in the final third.

While it hasn’t been a good season for United, Dalot is understood to be looking forward to a brighter future at the club under Amorim, who has already handed him 28 appearances to date.

Dalot’s last outing came on Tuesday night as United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Diogo Dalot committed to helping Ruben Amorim

Despite sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table, Manchester United can still end the 2024/25 campaign on a high.

The Reds face Lyon in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, which gives Amorim’s side a route back into the Champions League.

Dalot will be looking to add to his tally of two trophies since joining United from FC Porto in 2018, a year after United lifted the Europa League after beating Ajax in Stockholm.

The 26-year-old has since made 203 appearances in all competitions for the club and has appeared more times than all of his teammates this season except Alejandro Garnacho.

That performance deserved much better than the result.

Absolutely not a fan of some of Anorim's substitutions there, that's on him and there were some really poor individual performances there that were clear to see

Hats off to Dalot who I thought was brilliant

In an interview with Portuguese outlet Record, Dalot’s agent Carlos Goncalves outlined his client’s desire to help Amorim become a success at Old Trafford.

“Because of Diogo’s way of being, his way of working, his mentality of always being professional, he has earned his place,” Goncalves said.

“Not only at Manchester United, which is one of the best clubs in the world, regardless of the current situation, but also in the national team.

“He recently renewed his contract, a sign that Manchester United are still very happy with Diogo’s performances. And he will do everything possible to help the club and in this case coach Ruben Amorim.

“It’s always good when you have quality coaches like José Mourinho at United and now Ruben Amorim. But when someone signs with a club, they don’t sign with the coach, they sign with the club.”

Goncalves also sent a warning to Amorim that players join United for the stature of the club, not to link up with the man in position as head coach, although he did make a brief comparison to former United boss Jose Mourinho.

Amorim will be planning to strengthen his squad in the summer when the transfer window opens, after adding two new players to his squad in January, including Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.

Although most United players face uncertainty with their futures, Dalot appears to be part of the club’s long-term plans after signing a new deal until 2028 in May 2023. That deal also gives United an option to extend it by a further 12 months.

Most Manchester United appearances this season

Injuries have made life harder for United in what has been a turbulent season.

Key players like Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo have missed chunks of the season and most United fans will believe the team would be in a stronger position had these players been available.

Dalot and Garnacho have both appeared 46 times for United this season, with Bruno Fernandes the closest contender, having played one game fewer.

Player Appearances

Alejandro Garnacho 46

Diogo Dalot 46

Bruno Fernandes 45

Noussair Mazraoui 45

Joshua Zirkzee 45

Manchester United appearances 2024/25 so far

Perhaps the biggest surprise is first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana not making United’s top 5 list for appearances across all competitions this season.

Hopefully, with a bit of luck, Amorim can welcome more players back from injury before the end of the season. It was great to see Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Mason Mount all return to action against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
