Manchester United's chances of getting Jadon Sancho off their books permanently this summer have seemingly been boosted after Enzo Maresca insisted that the on-loan Chelsea winger's situation 'has not changed'

Sancho, 25, was frozen out at Old Trafford before joining the Blues on loan back in August. The deal included an obligation for the Blues to sign him on a permanent basis, however, it emerged last month that they can renege on that £25million agreement - if they are willing to pay a £5m penalty fee.

The former Borussia Dortmund star started life at Stamford Bridge in fine form, registering three assists in his first three Premier League games. But his form has waned in recent weeks.

While there has been speculation over whether or not Chelsea will back out of a deal for Sancho, Maresca has hinted the Londoners will press ahead with their commitment to keep the forward on their books beyond the end of the season.

When the Italian was asked if he had a message for Sancho as the club approach decision time, he replied: "No but, to be honest, probably you have more news than me, in terms of Jadon. For me, Jadon's situation doesn't change; it's exactly the same.

"For sure, in terms of numbers, he could do better, no doubt, but it's not just about Jadon; I think we have more players in the same situation. Now, I don't need to give Jadon a message because I speak with Jadon every day; I had a conversation yesterday with him.

"He has just to continue to give his best until the end, and this is what we want from Jadon."

While there has been a change of management since Sancho swapped Manchester for London, it was recently outlined that he and Marcus Rashford are two players the club and Ruben Amorim would like to sell this summer in order to fund a squad overhaul.

Rashford joined Aston Villa on loan in January and, despite an upturn in form recently, is surplus to requirements under Amorim, who has predominantly worked with the squad he inherited from Erik ten Hag in November.

The Portuguese coach is likely to target a striker in his first summer transfer window, although a reunion with Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres now looks unlikely, per reports.

Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap is among the other players United have scouted, with the 22-year-old impressing in the Premier League despite the Tractor Boys' struggles.
