Arne Slot’s Liverpool to push for the signature of Arsenal and Manchester United midfield target Joao Gomes.
According to a report from CaughtOffside, Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of Joao Gomes. They have been keeping a close eye on the Wolves sensation and are gearing up to make a £40 million offer to sign him this summer.
Gomes has gone from strength to strength since making the move to Wolves at the start of 2023. The Flamengo graduate has established himself as a key figure in the English club and has been a regular feature in their XI this season.
He has featured in a total of 32 matches across competitions and has contributed towards six goals. His performances have put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs across Europe. Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United are all believed to be interested in the 24-year-old.
Gomes could leave despite his new deal
While Wolves have managed to hand him a new five-year deal that runs until the summer of 2030, there could still be a possibility of him making a move this summer. The new deal may not include a release clause, but it could be more about preserving his market value than ensuring his long-term future.
Liverpool, long-term admirers of Gomes, are seriously pursuing his signature. Arne Slot is believed to be a big admirer of the Brazilian, and he feels Gomes is the perfect fit to reinforce his squad as he can feature as a number six as well as a number eight. More importantly, he has enough experience playing in the English top flight.
With Wataru Endo expected to be on the move this summer, the Brazilian could be considered a massive upgrade in that position. They are considering making an offer worth around £40 million to test Wolves’ resolve. While there is no certainty that they will table an offer, they are internally discussing a potential move for the 24-year-old in an attempt to bolster their midfield.
Even Arsenal and United have been watching him closely and could rival the Reds in their pursuit of his signature. The Gunners seek more depth in the centre of the park as Mikel Arteta looks to push for the Premier League title, while United want to freshen things up in their midfield with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro’s future uncertain.
