Ou star freshman Jeremiah Fears declaring for 2025 NBA Draft

NORMAN — Oklahoma men’s basketball’s star freshman point guard Jeremiah Fears declared for the 2025 NBA Draft on Wednesday. ESPN first reported the news.

Fears was one of the best freshmen in the country during the 2024-25 campaign, averaging 17.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists.

Behind Fears, OU had its best season in four years under head coach Porter Moser, reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time in that span, before falling to UConn in the first round.

Fears’ regular season highlights included a 30-point performance and game-winning four-point play versus Michigan and 27-point, 10-assist double-double against Mississippi State.

He especially caught fire in the postseason, scoring 29 points in the first round of the SEC Tournament versus Georgia, 28 points in the second round versus Kentucky and 20 points in the NCAA Tournament first round.

Credit Moser and assistant coach Armon Gates for landing Fears, a four-star recruit from Joliet, Illinois who was originally committed to the University of Illinois, before reclassifying from the 2025 class to the 2024 class and signing with the Sooners last summer.

Now Moser is tasked with rebuilding his team for the 2025-26 campaign without the 18-year-old wunderkind as the linchpin of his squad.

Meanwhile, Fears is projected by ESPN to be picked No. 11 overall by the Houston Rockets in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft, which takes place from June 25-26.

"This year has been an incredible journey and I am thankful for all the love and support I have received from the OU fan base," Fears wrote in an Instagram post. "I wanted to express my gratitude to Coach Moser and the entire coaching staff, who believed in me and allowed me to showcase my abilities at the University of Oklahoma.

"To my teammates, who have stood by me through the ups and downs this season, I'm grateful for your unwavering support and the bond we've built. Wishing you all success in your next chapters — love you always, brothers for life!

"To my family and loved ones — particularly my mom, dad, brothers, and sister — thank you for your constant support and the sacrifices you've made. With that, I'm thrilled to share that I'm entering the 2025 NBA Draft. Boomer!"
