Everton were the subject of an announcement from the Premier League after an incident involving James Tarkowski against Liverpool.

The former Burnley defender was the star of the show in the reverse fixture at Goodison Park as he scored a late leveller to dint the Reds’ title hopes.

However, he was nearly on the receiving end of a very different fortune at Anfield on 2 April after an early collision.

Tarkowski escapes red card against Liverpool

Tarkowski was involved in a controversial incident early on in the contest when he caught Alexis Mac Allister after he had gotten the ball.

Gary Neville believed that the Everton man was lucky to stay on the pitch after the challenge which left the Reds star in pain in the aftermath.

Everton need to take their chances against Liverpool

The implications for Liverpool are huge, they can restore their 12-point lead at the summit of the division with a win.

The Blues would love nothing more than to spoil the occasion, just like they did at their own ground not that long ago through Tarkowski’s late strike.

Stats Liverpool Everton

Possession 72% 28%

Shots 8 4

Shots on target 2 0

Big chances missed 1 2

The stats so far in the Merseyside Derby.

If they are to do that, they need to take their chances when they get them, as the Reds have had the majority of the ball so far at their home ground.

Beto had a glorious chance after he left several defenders in the dust but hit the post and he needs to be more clinical if David Moyes‘ side are to come away with a positive result, especially with Caoimhin Kelleher in goal rather than Alisson.

The Scotsman has his side of a great unbeaten run, if they can continue it against their arch-rivals, it will leave him very confident about what they can achieve next season.

If they can take points from Arne Slot’s side, that would be the icing on the cake ahead of a hugely exciting summer with the Friedkin Group set to back Moyes and the move to the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium.
