The 2025 NFL Draft is right around the corner, and we've got you covered with in-depth scouting reports on all of the top prospects at every position in this year's class.
Here's everything you need to know about LSU tight end Mason Taylor heading into the 2025 draft:
Vitals
Height: 6-5
Weight: 255
Age: 20
Strengths
Taylor's massive frame is impossible to miss on the field, but that doesn't stop him from getting lost as a pass-catcher downfield, as he's incredibly adept at finding the soft spots in zone coverage. He knows how to use his size and strength to his advantage against man coverage, too, shielding defenders from the ball and snatching the ball away from his frame before the opponent can get anywhere near it. He's a powerful and effective blocker, which allows him to stay on the field in various formations and challenge defenses from any alignment. He moves ridiculously well for his size, and has a knack for making big plays in key moments.
Weaknesses
While he's an impressive overall athlete, Taylor's lack of elite straight-line speed and short-area explosiveness could present more challenges against NFL defenses than they did in the college ranks. He can struggle to consistently run away from defenses when working vertically downfield, and he lacks the burst in and out of his breaks to create consistent separation on intermediate routes. As a blocker, he can come in too high off the ball, losing the leverage battle and failing to maximize his size and strength with inconsistent technique.

Final Analysis
NFL teams that are looking for a do-it-all tight end who won't have to come off the field for running plays on early downs and heavier personnel packages will love Taylor, who can give you just as much value as an in-line blocker as he does a reliable chain-mover and zone-beater in the passing game. His lack of speed, explosiveness, and route-running refinement could limit his ceiling, but Taylor has an extremely high floor, and it doesn't hurt that his dad and uncle (Miami Dolphins legends Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas) are already in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Current Projection: 2nd Round
