When the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018, the organization opted against visiting the White House with President Trump.
With Trump back in office as the nation's 47th President, speculation grew the minute the Eagles won Super Bowl LIX on whether or not the team would deny the visit once again.
That won't be happening, though.
Philadelphia and the White House confirmed the organization will be accepting an invitation to the White House. For owner Jeffrey Lurie, the Eagles wanted to make sure that the tradition of going would not be overtaken for political reasons.
"We just felt this is a time-honored tradition being invited by the White House. So there was no reticence whatsoever," Lurie said. "To be celebrated at the White House is a good thing. There were special circumstances (in 2018) that were very different, and so this was kind of an obvious choice and look forward to it.

"When you grow up and you hear about, ‘Oh, the championship team got to go to the White House,' that's what this is. And so we didn't have that opportunity and now we do. I think we're all looking forward to it."
Lurie reinforced the fact that there would be no political statement with the visit and his players on the roster would not be forced to go to the event.
It's unclear who would end up going and who would deny the request among the roster.
What is clear is that things have changed for the Eagles after their second Lombardi. And that includes honoring a decades-long tradition.
