Manchester United fell to a 1-0 defeat at the City Ground with former player Anthony Elanga covering 85m in just nine seconds before scoring the only goal of the game.
The visitors began the game brightly with captain Bruno Fernandes testing Matz Sels with an early effort.
After an early setback, Amorim's side responded well and continued to create chances.
Diogo Dalot's looping effort crashed off the bar and on this occasion the **Nottingham Forest**players were able to clear their lines.
In the second period, United struggled to break down Nuno Espirito Santo's team, who were sitting in a low-block for the vast majority of the game.
Harry Maguire, who came on as a number nine, had the best chance of the game, however Brazilian defender Murillo made a goal-line clearance in the dying moments of the game to maintain Forest's push for Champions League qualification.
Here are the key takeaways from the contest.
Garnacho's disappointing display
After putting an end to his lengthy goal-drought against Leicester City, pundits and fans thought **Alejandro Garnacho**would now kick on and end the season in a more positive manner. However, the Argentine was unable to build on his previous good performance and was arguably the worst player on the pitch.
The winger was constantly dispossessed in the first half and he was unable to complete many of his dribbles. The Red Devils' attacks were often let down by Garnacho's poor decision making and final actions.
In the second half, the 20-year-old improved but decided to shoot on too many occasions, when a pass to wing-back Patrick Dorgu seemed the better choice.
Lack of physicality proves to be costly
Elanga's solo goal further highlighted United's need to address their lack of athleticism and physicality in the summer. During this goal, three players were unable to get anywhere near the dynamic winger, who ran the length of the pitch and was able to hold off some rather tame challenges.
Throughout the contest, the lack of physicality from the visitors was notable. Elliot Anderson and Yates covered significant amount of ground in this contest and nullified the threats posed by the United midfield.
Furthermore, the Forest backline bullied both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund in duels. The home side also provided a constant threat during transitions and that was mainly because of the athleticism of Elanga and Morgan Gibbs-White, who were influential throughout proceedings.
Encouraging signs for Amorim
Despite yet another defeat on the road for the Reds, there was plenty of positives to take from the game. In the opening 30 minutes, Amorim's side were dominant and maintained constant pressure on the Forest backline.
United were entering the final third with ease and subsequently **Nuno**reverted to a back three and substituted Danilo for Morato in the first half. The second half continued in similar fashion with the visitors dominating possession and having more shots on goal.
Although it can be argued that Forest purposely let United have so much of the ball, Amorim will be pleased with the way his team were so settled in possession.
Maguire more effective than strikers
The Red Devils' poor form in front of goal continued at the City ground. Zirkzee, who was deployed slightly further up, led the line during the first half.
The Netherlands international was unable to hold up the ball on a consistent basis and rarely tested the stubborn Forest defence. At the interval, Hojlund was introduced and although United improved he didn't impact the game in a significant manner.
As a last throw of the dice, Amorim brought on Maguire and deployed him as a centre-forward. Maguire's cameo up front registered an xG of 0.59, which was just 0.01 off Hojlund's expected goals in his last nine matches.
The Englishman terrorised the Forest defence and came close to scoring on two occasions. His impact on the game further illustrated United's need to bring in an elite striker in the summer.
