Texas safeties coach Terry Joseph is expected to take a job with the New Orleans Saints, Horns247 has confirmed.
Joseph will be the third Texas assistant to leave the staff this offseason, following Blake Gideon to Georgia Tech and Tashard Choice to the Detroit Lions.
Orangebloods first reported the news.
Texas recently announced Joseph taking over the safeties coach position, as well as the defensive passing game and secondary coordinator, in the wake of Gideon leaving. UT hired Rutgers assistant Mark Orphey to coach the cornerbacks. The Longhorns also filled Choice's void with West Virginia assistant Chad Scott.
Joseph has been with Texas since Steve Sarkisian took over in early 2021. Prior to his time in Austin, Joseph coached at Notre Dame, North Carolina, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, and LSU.
2024 was a year to remember for the Texas secondary, with the Longhorns boasting the No. 7 pass defense in the country (No. 1 in the SEC). Texas also had its third Thorpe Award winner in program history in Jahdae Barron. Barron, as well as safety Andrew Mukuba, are both expected to be selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, with most mocks considering Barron a first-round pick.
Joseph was also a strong recruiter on the Texas staff, particularly in his home state of Louisiana. He played a big role in landing guys like Wardell Mack, Derek Williams Jr., and even Arch Manning. It wasn't just Louisiana where he excelled, though. He led or helped land recruits like Kobe Black and Malik Muhammad. The Longhorns added another experienced recruiter in the Bayou State in defensive ends coach LaAllan Clark this offseason from Ohio State.
It's not clear which direction Texas will go to replace Joseph on the back end of the defense. The staff just went through the process of hiring a new defensive backs coach in Orphey, so it's possible the candidate has already been keyed in on or even interviewed.
Texas recently announced a number of staff promotions and job title changes, Joseph included, last week.
Mark Orphey (new to the staff) -- Corners coach
Chad Scott (new to the staff) -- Running backs coach
Keynodo Hudson -- Nickels coach
LaAllan Clark (new to the staff) -- Edge coach

Steve Sarkisian talked about his own personal contract extension this offseason, as well as his staff, this morning on the Up & Adams Show last week.
"It always feels good, you know?" Sark said of his extension. "I mean, obviously we feel like we've done some pretty good things here. We've got great support from administration, the Board of Regents, Chris Del Conte, athletic director, the entire athletic department And so to recognize kind of what we're doing is great, but more important than me, I think extending all the assistant coaches, keeping our staff intact, the continuity we have has been huge."
