David Moyes said he told the Merseyside derby officials he was disappointed with their call to allow Liverpool’s winning goal. Diogo Jota slotted past Jordan Pickford on the hour - but only after collecting a ball that bounced his way after James Tarkowski sought to intercept a pass to Luis Diaz.
Diaz was offside but, despite protests from Blues players, the goal was not pulled back.
The ECHO understands VAR did not intervene because Diaz was not judged to have been in a position to impact Tarkowski’s ability to play the ball.

The controversial call continued to stoke anger beyond the final whistle, with Moyes himself questioning a decision that ultimately cost Everton the game.
Speaking after the match, the Blues boss said: “He is offside. I have not sought an explanation but I have said to them [the officials] that I am disappointed. It was an easy one to give as well because all our players were holding the 18-yard line and Diaz comes from behind and affects Tarky clearing it. I’m really surprised it wasn’t given - or maybe I am not surprised.”
