Lions Using a Top 30 Visit on Edge Rusher Who Had 4.5 Career Sacks in College

The Detroit Lions have been focusing on their defense with their visits during the Pre-Draft process.

They have already used a couple of Top 30 visits on linebackers in Georgia's Chaz Chambliss and Maryland's Ruben Hyppolite.

There are also plenty of defenders on their list for local visits.

Now they are set to meet with another defender for a Top 30 visit and he is the most high-profile they've met with so far.

According to The Draft Network's Ryan Fowler, the Lions are using a Top 30 visit to meet with Texas A&M edge rusher Shemar Stewart.

The Detroit Lions will host Texas A&M EDGE Shemar Stewart for a 30 visit tomorrow after arriving in town this evening, per source.

Dynamic edge threat has had an excellent predraft process and is a player who is expected to hear his name called early on night one.

Stewart's college career doesn't look like what you'd expect from a player who is projected to be selected some time in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Over three seasons at Texas A&M, Stewart had just 4.5 sacks with 1.5 in each season.

His 33 hurries in 2024 look a bit better than his sack numbers, but his production still left a lot to be desired.

His draft stock is mostly carried by his athleticism.

He put in a monster performance at the NFL Combine. His 40 time was fourth-best among edge rushers. His 40" vertical was second-best at the position. His 10'11" broad jump was the best at his position.

It's a reason to believe he'll have a high ceiling in the NFL, but it's hard to see how he fits with the Lions right now.

They need production on the edge and they need it quickly.

If they bring in a proven veteran first, this pick could work, but they can't go into the season with Stewart competing against Marcus Davenport for the second edge spot when he enters the league as such a big question mark.
