Cam Heyward Not Scared of Browns’ Draft Plans

The Cleveland Browns, with the second pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, have plenty of options waiting for them in late April.

If the assumption that the Tennessee Titans will pick Miami quarterback Cam Ward proves to be true, the Browns will choose from Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, his two-way teammate Travis Hunter, or Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter. Each has made credible arguments to be the top pick, and each could very well land in Cleveland.

However, Rich Eisen spoke to Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward about the possibility of the Browns pairing Carter with All-World edge rusher Myles Garrett on the star's "Not Just Football" podcast.

It's safe to say Heyward isn't scared on his offense's behalf.

The Steelers veteran commented on his rival's potential draft plan after Eisen raised the possibility.

"Despite him being a remarkable unicorn, the Browns may think it's too good a choice to pass up putting Abdul Carter on the same line as Myles Garrett. That would create so many issues for your offensive line, to say the least," Eisen said, via The Sports Rush.

"I don't agree," Heyward replied. "But you're welcome to repent."

"You know what it's like on that offensive line," Eisen said. "It's your job to create matchup problems to let your other teammates hunt. And one edge is Myles, and the other edge is Abdul Carter. Or Abdul Carter is just killing somebody on his side, and Myles Garrett goes crossover dribbling over your center."

We don't blame Heyward for his confidence. We are, however, scared for Pittsburgh's lineman.

Comparing any prospect to an All-Pro is lofty, but that hasn't stopped many from matching Carter with his Penn State predecessor Micah Parsons. The two boast similarly athletic traits, experience at off-ball linebacker before a transition to the edge, and an innate ability to rush the passer.

Carter's profile might make him a team's top edge rusher in a month's time. In Cleveland, though, he'll be the Robin to Garrett's Batman, learning from the best edge rusher on the planet. Whether he's taking the heat off of Garrett or taking advantage of the double-teams headed the veteran's way, there are both direct and indirect impacts to the potential selection.

Pittsburgh's offensive line stayed above water despite incredulous injury luck in 2024, and stands to improve with the return of first-round tackle Troy Fauatnu, who missed virtually all of his rookie campaign. Left tackle remains questionable with Broderick Jones, and the Browns having two star edge rushers provides them an extra dose of creativity to spoil Pittsburgh's protection plans.

Ultimately, if the Steelers don't find a quarterback, it may not matter who the Browns take atop the draft.
