Ole Miss was arguably the most talented team in college football last season as a school-record 11 Rebels were invited to the NFL combine. One of those players was cornerback Trey Amos, who has been skyrocketing up draft boards since the season ended and many think could sneak into the first round.
On Wednesday, however, ESPN's Field Yates released a mock draft in which Amos is selected with the No. 35 pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The problem is that the Jaguars already boast one of the most expensive cornerback duos in the league.
"Jacksonville could continue to chip away on defense," wrote Yates. "Amos blends 6-foot-1 size, 4.43 seed and great ball skills."
Amos stood out for the Rebels in his fifth college season, recording 50 total tackles and three interceptions, as well as 13 passes defended and a forced fumble. He was Ole Miss' best defensive back and anchored the secondary last season, which has helped him gain notoriety as a prospect.
However, landing in Jacksonville may not be best for his immediate development. The Jaguars already spent over $100 million at the position, with $76.5 million going to Tyson Campbell and $30 million going to Jourdan Lewis. While these players may be excellent to learn from, it would be difficult to pry snaps away from them based on how much Jacksonville has already invested in the position.
