The White House said that steel, aluminum and auto imports won’t be subject to reciprocal tariffs announced by President Donald Trump on Wednesday. The White House said on Wednesday in a fact sheet on the tariffs that Trump’s reciprocal tariffs targeting specific countries will not be added onto existing duties on steel, aluminum, autos and auto parts already subject to tariffs. The White House said that copper, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, lumber articles, bullion, energy and other certain minerals that are not available in the United States will also not subject to the reciprocal tariff. A 25 percent tariff is already in place for all imports of steel and aluminum, with tariffs on automobiles set to take effect on Thursday.
Trump earlier vowed to announce sweeping tariffs on pharmaceuticals, semiconductors as well lumber articles soon.
