Hornets Make Important LaMelo Ball Announcement on Wednesday

News first broke on Friday that the Charlotte Hornets had decided to shut LaMelo Ball for the remainder of the season due to injuries to his ankle and wrist.

Ball had been in and out of the lineup for the Hornets for the better part of the season, and the team finally decided that it was time to stash their cornerstone superstar amid another disappointing campaign.

On Wednesday, the Hornets took to social media to make an important announcement surrounding the All-Star guard.

The team revealed that Ball underwent arthroscopic surgery to address his ankle and wrist injuries and that both procedures were successful. The Hornets also announced that the former Rookie of the Year is expected to be back on the court within 5-6 weeks.

The decision to shut Ball down (again) for the season did not come as a huge shock. It was just roughly a week ago since the Hornets were officially eliminated from playoff contention, but it's not as if they were considered a serious threat to begin with.

Heading into Wednesday's game against the Indiana Pacers, the Hornets own a 19-56 record, which is the third-worst standing in the entire league.

It's another forgettable season for Ball, whose campaign was cut short after 47 games played. The 23-year-old, however, averaged a career-best 25.2 points this year on 40.5% shooting, to go along with 4.9 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 1.1 steals, while also knocking down 3.8 triples per game on a 33.9% clip.
