Celebrated NBA Exec joins NBL board

“This is a major coup for the NBL to have someone of Len’s experience."

The National Basketball League (NBL) is delighted to announce seasoned international sports executive Len Komoroski as a new Director.

Komoroski is a former CEO and now Senior Advisor of Rock Entertainment Group (REG), the umbrella entity of the teams and venues that are part of Cavaliers’ Chairman Dan Gilbert’s Rock Family of Companies which includes the Cleveland Cavaliers, the AHL Cleveland Monsters, the NBA G League Charge, as well as the operation of Rocket Arena in Cleveland and the Cleveland Clinic Courts, the Cavaliers’ training and development centre.

With more than 40 years of experience in pro sports and entertainment, including a 19-year stint as CEO of REG and the Cavaliers, Komoroski's leadership has helped set a solid business foundation from which the group has flourished into one of the successfully operated sports and entertainment entities in the USA.

Komoroski previously played a leadership role for business operations and business-related endeavours for Gilbert’s development interests in downtown Cleveland and throughout the region. He also is the Chairman/Managing Partner of the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League – a Major League Baseball Partner League. In addition, he is a minority partner and Director for Sheffield United of the English Football League.

“This is a major coup for the NBL to have someone of Len’s experience, expertise and business acumen join the League in such an important capacity,” NBL Owner and Executive Chairman, Larry Kestelman, said.

“As we continue to grow, Len’s deep understanding of the sporting landscape will add invaluable insights and help us unlock a new way of thinking across a range of areas including business development, fan experience and engagement, crisis management, innovation, leadership and governance.”

Komoroski’s impressive career has seen him attain key skills in brand and business management, leadership, arena development, community engagement and social responsibility, growth and sustainability, and crisis and change management.

Komoroski expressed his excitement about helping identify ways the NBL can improve during its aggressive growth phase.

“I’m truly excited to be joining the NBL board and am looking forward to working with Larry and the leadership team. With its recent growth and reputation as one of the best domestic leagues outside the NBA, the NBL has become a global stage for elite talent and high-level competition,” Komoroski said.

“Australia’s passion for basketball is undeniable, and the NBL offers an opportunity to play alongside world-class players, develop on and off the court, and compete in front of some of the most dedicated fans in sports. I look forward to reviewing the recent success of the NBL and help identify new areas for improvement for the League and its clubs.”

Komoroski also served as the Senior Vice President and Chief of Business Operations with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles (1996-2003), the Senior Vice President and COO of the International Hockey League’s (IHL) Cleveland Lumberjacks (1994-96) and the Vice President of Sales with the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves (1988-1994).

Komoroski joins Kestelman, Graeme Wade and Nikola Milivojevic as a Director.
