The Minnesota Timberwolves are coming off of their biggest win of the season, edging out the Denver Nuggets 140-139 in a double-overtime thriller. This victory not only extends their current momentum but also marks their sixth straight win over Denver, a streak that dates back to last year’s NBA Playoffs.
With just six games remaining in the regular season, the MN Timberwolves now sit at 44-32, locked in an extremely tight battle with the Warriors (44-31), Grizzlies (44-32), and Clippers (43-32) for the 5th and 6th seeds in the Western Conference.
Only the top six teams in each conference get a free ride into the playoff bracket. Seeds 7-10 have to participate in the dreaded play-in tournament, which only two teams survive.

The Wolves certainly aren’t thinking about the offseason right now. But that doesn’t mean media won’t. Like the Pat McAfee Show, which had top NBA insider Shams Charania (ESPN) on Wednesday afternoon. One topic of conversation: Kevin Durant and his imminent trade out of Phoenix.
Confirmed: The Minnesota Timberwolves and Kevin Durant like each other
Minnesota made a push for Durant at the trade deadline, but the deal couldn’t get to the finish line before the final buzzer rang. Once the NBA Finals finish, however, all eyes will be on Kevin Durant watch.
At this point, it’s all but a guarantee he is dealt, and it’ll probably happen early on. But not only are the Wolves interested in KD, Shams reports, the 11X All-NBA superstar has mutual interest in playing for the Timberwolves. Kevin Durant is a 15-time All-Star, 4X scoring champ and 2X NBA Finals winner. He’s also is 36-year-old.
"Kevin Durant could definitely be traded this offseason..
It just hasn't worked out for this Suns team..
There was mutual interest at the trade deadline with Golden State, Minnesota, New York, Houston, Miami, and San Antonio" ~ @ShamsCharania #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/5h4cLSmRub

“The Suns and Kevin Durant will work together on any trade. But I can tell you guys this–back at the NBA trade deadline, there was a list of teams with mutual interest in Kevin Durant. From my understanding, those teams were Minnesota, New York, Houston, San Antonio, and Miami.
Those were the types of teams that had interest then, and I expect all of them to be in the mix this offseason. But the biggest thing to keep an eye on for all NBA fans, especially fans of those teams, is how your team finishes in the playoffs. How do the playoffs go? Because that’s going to really determine who feels like they’re a Kevin Durant away. They might not get back what they gave up for Kevin Durant.”
Shams Charania
Kevin Durant and the Suns are sitting at 35-41, entering Wednesday, which puts them just out of the play-in, at No. 11 in the Western Conference. Phoenix is just a game and a half back from that 10th seed and final play in spot. Regardless of whether they sneak in or not, though, it appears Durant’s time in Phoenix is done and everyone in the organization has already accepted it.

The Suns’ disappointing season as a team hasn’t really affected Durant’s numbers. The one time Texas Longhorn is averaging 26.6 points per game on 52.7% shooting this season. That’s exactly why he’s in the conversation as one of the greatest scorers ever.

Even at 36 y/o, KD’s game hasn’t fallen off. He just needs a better team around him, which has always been the case for him. Could that be the Minnesota Timberwolves? It sure seems like they have just as good a shot as any.
As Shams notes, how the Wolves finish this season will very much play into Kevin Durant’s final decision on where to play. So, all the Minnesota Timberwolves can do right now to reel in KD is win games. They’ll get another chance to do just that on Thursday night in Brooklyn.
