In Wednesday night's rivalry showdown between the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics, something -- or some streak -- would have to give. Boston, holding onto the third-best record in the league, entered the evening with a nine-game winning streak.
On the other hand, Miami had pulled together five consecutive wins of its own to bolster an otherwise subpar 2024-25 campaign that's had them on the edge of the NBA postseason picture.
Between the two red-hot Eastern Conference squads, the Celtics were the clear favorite to keep their streak alive. However, not only did the Heat stun their long-time foes on the road; they did so in a 21-point blowout win.
Miami (35-41) came away with a 124-103 win to stun Boston (56-20) on its own home court on Wednesday evening. Seven players scored in double figures for the Heat, as Tyler Herro led the way with 25 points, nine assists and six rebounds. Bam Adebayo also chipped in with a well-rounded performance of his own, tallying 21 points, five rebounds and six assists.
Recent veteran acquisition Kyle Anderson scored 19 points off the bench for Miami as well, while rookie Pelle Larsson tallied 16 in the scoring column as well. The Heat found just as much success on the defensive end of the floor, holding Boston star forward Jayson Tatum to 16 points on 4-of-17 shooting from the field and 2-of-9 from three-point range.
With six straight wins now under their belt, Herro and Adebayo will look to continue Miami's recent momentum on Thursday night against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Heat will be back on their home turf for that matchup, with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
