Crystal Palace manager Olive Glasner has made candid comments about the future of 24-year-old Palace captain Marc Guehi amid interest from Liverpool.
While Arne Slot is heading for his first Premier League title in his first season since replacing Jurgen Klopp, the Dutch coach faces a major overhaul in his second summer at the helm.
With the news that Trent Alexander-Arnold is heading to Real Madrid, Slot’s rebuild has got a whole lot harder. Virgil van Dijk’s future at the club is not guaranteed either but until reports confirm he has agreed to join a new club, there is hope he will extend.
The same goes for Mohamed Salah but even in spite of potential departures, this season has shown the dire need for Liverpool to sign at least two new centre-backs.
Injuries still plague Joe Gomez – a trend many Liverpool fans wished would not ruin his time at Anfield – and is facing the same Anfield fate Daniel Sturridge did. So much talent but the constant injuries make it impossible for him to stake a claim to start.
Ibrahima Konate has also struggled to remain fit at times but more concerning are the links to PSG and Real Madrid.
Liverpool’s interest in Marc Guehi has received a massive boost
Liverpool are interested in Marc Guehi and he is no doubt on their extensive list of potential centre-backs they could sign this summer and their chances of signing have certainly received a major boost after comments from Palace boss Oliver Glasner.
The Boot Room reports that Liverpool, along with Chelsea, are the forerunners for Guehi’s signature.
When asked about Guehi, Glasner said: “We haven’t just started talking about his contract. The talks were going on even before I arrived – for more than two years now.
“Marc is thinking what is best for his personal career and this is what we have to accept.
“I don’t know (if he will sign a new deal). I don’t think about what happens in summer. On the 26th of May, I will turn my phone off for one or two weeks and then we will see what happens.
“Everybody knows he is a great footballer and great character. Let’s see what happens. Of course, no manager would want to lose their captain. It will be Marc’s decision, but I know that he is so focused on improving his game and our game. It has no influence on his performances.”
