Syria strongly condemned recent attacks by Israel targeting its territory.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic strongly condemns the latest wave of Israeli aggression against Syria," it said Wednesday in a statement.
Israel conducted airstrikes in five locations within half an hour, the ministry said, adding that Hama Airport was effectively rendered inoperable and dozens of civilians and military personnel were injured.
"This unjustified escalation is a deliberate attempt to destabilize Syria and exacerbate the suffering of its people," the statement added.
The statement said that Israel's repeated attacks on Syrian soil have also hampered recovery efforts.
The statement urged the UN to take urgent precautions to prevent a recurrence of Israeli violations.
Israeli fighter jets carried out airstrikes late Wednesday on two cities in Syria, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.
“An Israeli occupation airstrike targeted the vicinity of the building of the scientific research center in the Barzeh residential district of Damascus,” it said.
In a separate attack, airstrikes targeted the city of Hama in central Syria.
Hama governorate’s Telegram channel reported that Israeli occupation warplanes targeted Hama Military Airport and its surroundings with more than 15 airstrikes.
