Harvey Elliott has struggled since the arrival of Arne Slot.

The Englishman hasn’t been able to nail down a place in the starting XI this season, and an Anfield departure could now be on the cards.

With less than 600 minutes on the pitch, the 21-year-old doesn’t look like breaking into Slot’s side any time soon.

Elliott proved himself a capable Premier League midfielder in Jurgen Klopp’s last term and there are likely to be a number of suitors if he is made available in June.

Now, one Premier League side have already reportedly begun negotiations to bring Elliott away from his boyhood club.

According to a recent report from Fichajes, Newcastle have already made their first bid for Elliott, a bid of around €60 million (£50m).

The report does not reveal the Reds’ response to the bid but does reaffirm that Elliott is happy to stay at Anfield.

The approaching summer transfer window is set to be one of the biggest ever seen at Liverpool, and a £50m fee for a player only on the periphery of the first-team may be hard to turn down.

Liverpool are also reportedly interested in a number of Newcastle’s players, namely Alexander Isak, Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon, and Elliott heading to St James’ Park could make any deal easier to negotiate.

Will Elliott leave Anfield?

Although Elliott has struggled for minutes this season, he isn’t the only one. Wataru Endo, Tyler Morton and Federico Chiesa have all also played less than 800 minutes under Slot, with only Endo getting on the pitch more than Elliott.

Slot has a preferred midfield, and he rarely strays away from it, with Curtis Jones occasionally being rotated in with Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and the almost ever present Ryan Gravenberch.

It doesn’t seem likely that this is going to change anytime soon either, so the writing may be on the wall for Elliott, and Liverpool might be tempted to cash in before the youngster’s value decreases by too much.

Newcastle’s offer may be too good to turn down, but it also doesn’t look like Elliott will force a move away from Liverpool, so this could be a saga we see play out well into the summer.
