The aftermath of Real Madrid’s narrow victory over Real Sociedad continues to stir up debates, as several contentious moments from the match remain hot topics hours after the final whistle.
Real Sociedad’s frustration largely revolves around a disputed sequence involving the buildup of Aurelien Tchouameni’s goal.
The incident in question occurred when Kylian Mbappe appeared to be in a potentially offside position before the ball eventually resulted in a corner.
Real Sociedad’s captain, Mikel Oyarzabal, was among the first to voice his discontent over the sequence. However, it was goalkeeper Alex Remiro who provided more detailed insight into what he believes was a major refereeing error.
Remiro’s version of the story

Speaking to Diario Vasco (h/t SPORT), Remiro pointed out what he felt was a clear foul that went unnoticed during the controversial play.
According to the goalkeeper, while the focus has been on Mbappe’s potential offside, another critical moment was ignored immediately afterward.
After successfully stopping Mbappe’s one-on-one attempt, Remiro managed to gain possession of the ball, holding it securely with his left hand.
However, as he was preparing to clear it, Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. intervened, taking the ball away from him.
“There are two plays, I don’t know if you noticed. There’s the offside, and then once he stopped the one-on-one, I get hold of the ball, I have it with my left hand, and Vinicius takes it away from my possession,” he said.
For Remiro, the entire play was questionable from the beginning. He believes Mbappe’s positioning interfered with Real Sociedad’s defender Igor Zubeldia, despite the French forward not directly touching the ball.
“For me it’s offside because it bothers Igor (Zubeldia), even though he doesn’t do anything,” he added.

Remiro also found himself at the centre of another debatable moment during the match, this time involving Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham.
As the English star made a strong attempt on goal, Remiro came out to challenge him and, in the process, accidentally punched Bellingham in the face.
Remiro defended his actions by explaining that his intention was to make a legitimate attempt to prevent Bellingham from scoring.
“What do I do if he shoots there? Do I take my hand away so he can score a goal? I go out to cover the possible shot and with the inertia I take it, as a goalkeeper, for me it is never a penalty,” he explained.
Despite putting up a strong fight, Real Sociedad left the pitch feeling aggrieved. The visitors played a determined match but ultimately fell short, with Antonio Rudiger’s header from a corner sealing their defeat.
