Manchester United have had a disastrous 2024-25 Premier League campaign.
The Red Devils replaced Erik ten Hag with Ruben Amorim in November, but there has been no revival in their fortunes under the Portuguese boss.
United returned to Premier League action on Tuesday night after the international break, but another frustrating display saw them lose 1-0 at Nottingham Forest.
Their former academy graduate Anthony Elanga came back to haunt them as the 22-year-old struck a superb goal within the opening five minutes.
The visitors’ lack of quality in the attacking third was evident as both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund failed to make an impact.
Manager Ruben Amorim then featured Harry Maguire off the bench to play as a makeshift forward, and the England international came close to equalising with a bundled effort.
Deploying a 32-year-old centre-back as their most threatening weapon in the opposition area perfectly shows the current situation of the Manchester giants.
Are United set for their worst Premier League season?
The Red Devils’ worst-ever points total in the modern era was 58, which they posted in the 2021-22 season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
Amorim’s side have collected 37 points from 30 matches this term, which means they must win seven of their eight games to reach 58.
In terms of league position, United’s eighth-place finish last season under Erik ten Hag was their worst in the Premier League era. They are set to break that record this campaign, as they are currently sitting 13th in the table.

With Zirkzee and Hojlund ineffective as centre-forwards, the club have been massively struggling to score goals this term. They have netted 37 times in 30 matches and are on course to beat their lowest goals return of 49 set in 2015-16.
United are also shipping in plenty of goals, but their current tally of 41 is unlikely to beat the record of 58 goals conceded in 2023-24.
