Gers hero a ‘free agent in June’; nine clubs watching but 49ers could convince him to stay

One of Philippe Clement’s biggest bugbears during his time at Rangers concerned the Ibrox club’s ineffective contract model.

Clement landed a dig on Ross Wilson when he lamented the state of the Rangers squad and more specifically the fact that the club had allowed several key players to run down their contracts.

With Rangers slashing the club’s wage bill by £6m this summer alone, Alex Rae reckons such turnover cost Philippe Clement in the end at Ibrox.

But Rangers aren’t set to change tact just yet, with one report claiming that another experienced out of contract star will leave Ibrox this summer.

Tom Lawrence headed for Rangers exit door

Rangers will reach a crossroads with Tom Lawrence come the end of the season, the 31-year-old technically out of contract at Ibrox this summer.

Back in the Rangers team after a run of injury issues, Lawrence was even called up by Wales during the March internationals after an exile enforced by former Dragons manager Rob Page.

Lawrence has been effective in recent matches for Rangers, something exemplified by a long-range equaliser against Dundee, and fans have begun asking the question over what happens next.

MORE RANGERS STORIES

Whilst Lawrence is a high-earner at Ibrox, Heart & Hand reported after the Welsh international’s arrival that Rangers had the option of a fourth year on the player.

But according to the Daily Mail, Rangers do not hold such a clause, with the newspaper claiming that as things stand Tom Lawrence ‘will become a free agent in June’.

Lawrence’s three seasons in Glasgow are tinged with sadness after an initially promising start to his Ibrox career.

Rangers pipped Premier League sides to the attacking midfielder’s signature in 2022, but a serious knee injury has decimated the former Derby County captain’s time in Scotland.

Wrexham head nine-team list of Tom Lawrence suitors

Tom Lawrence is wanted by at least nine clubs as he weighs up his future at Rangers.

The Daily Mail highlights Championship promotion chasing Wrexham as major suitors.

The Welsh outfit have shot up the divisions ever since high-profile investment from Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and are battling Birmingham City at the top of League One.

Several Championship sides have also been named, with Burnley, Coventry City, West Bromwich Albion, Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers all mentioned.

Outside of the UK, Besiktas were linked to Lawrence in January and the midfielder is once again linked to a reunion with former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Greek sides Olympiacos and PAOK have also been mentioned in the Daily Mail report.

It’s also believed that Lawrence ‘has not ruled out extending his stay’ at Rangers given he is an ‘influential and popular figure’ in the Ibrox dressing room.

Imminent US investment in Rangers led by 49ers Enterprises is said to be attractive to the ex-Man United youth but as things stand Lawrence is heading for the Ibrox exit door.
