The brilliant Carabao Cup inspired chant Newcastle United fans could be heard singing vs…

Newcastle United continued their push for Champions League qualification with a win over Brentford at St James’ Park on Wednesday night.

They did not perform anywhere near the same levels as they did in their emphatic Carabao Cup win two weeks ago, but Eddie Howe’s side were able to get the job done thanks to Alexander Isak’s first-half strike and a sensational goal from Sandro Tonali.

The Swede bagged his 20th Premier League goal of the season by getting on the end of Jacob Murphy’s dangerous cross into the box, with the ball coincidentally coming off Newcastle target Bryan Mbeumo before bouncing in.

However, Mbeumo came back to haunt the Magpies as he converted a penalty in front of the Gallowgate End after the hour mark, something Newcastle fans will hope that is something he will be doing for them next season.

Thankfully, Tonali put the Magpies back ahead with an emphatic strike from way out wide, catching Bees keeper Mark Flekken napping.

Newcastle’s win against Brentford keeps them in the hunt for a top-four finish with nine games to go, although Manchester City’s win against Leicester means they did not break into the Champions League spots.

While fans celebrated at full time, the St James’ Park crowd was still well up for it from the first whistle, and they could even be heard singing a new song.

Newcastle United fans sing fantastic chant during Brentford win

Wednesday night’s game was the first Premier League match since Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool, but fans were still able to get a glimpse of the players during the open-top bus parade and Town Moor event.

Fans will be pleased to see the Magpies pick up another three points, making it two Premier League wins in a row after their victory against West Ham United in March.

While the Carabao Cup win has been celebrated throughout the city, Newcastle fans have now been heard singing a new song to keep the memory alive.

Journalist Chris Waugh stated on X that he heard fans chanting “Don’t you know pump it up, Newcastle won the cup,” just after kick-off.

#NUFC in their usual 4-3-3, with Trippier at right-back, Livramento at left-back. Joelinton is the left-sided No 8, Guimaraes on the right.

Harvey Barnes at left-wing.

It is not the first time the chant has been sung by Newcastle fans, however, the Toon Army at Wembley were heard singing the same chant following the win after the song ‘Pump It Up’ by Endor was played inside the stadium.

It is sure to be a chant fans throughout the league will be hearing much more often during the run-in to the end of the season.

Newcastle United must pick up the pace after Brentford win

While fans will be pleased that Newcastle were able to pick up the three points, it is clear that the performance levels had dropped since the final.

Some may suggest it is due to not playing a competitive game for over two weeks, or the fact that some players have been away on international duty.

Newcastle’s next league clash is against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday, a game in which the Magpies will be heavy favourites for and one that Howe will see as a must-win.

With Chelsea still to play, Newcastle could end the gameweek in fifth place, which could still be enough for a spot in the Champions League thanks to the UEFA Coefficient and other Premier League teams’ good showing in Europe.
