Gary Neville rips into Leeds United loanee Jack Harrison after his Merseyside derby display

It was a disappointing night for Everton and David Moyes as the Toffees lost their unbeaten run of nine games at Anfield on Wednesday night – and Gary Neville has criticised Jack Harrison.

Everton have thrived since the return of David Moyes, losing just four of his 13 games in charge – a big difference compared to Sean Dyche’s early-season form. Premier League safety has been secured.

But for Jack Harrison, it has been a hugely difficult season. The source of constant criticism for Everton fans, Harrison only managed his first goal or assist with a deflected effort against Wolves back in March.

However, Moyes continues to pick the on-loan Leeds man and on Wednesday night, Harrison was handed his seventh Premier League start in a row as The Toffees went to Anfield in the latest Merseyside derby.

Gary Neville lambasts Jack Harrison for Everton moment

Harrison was poor all night before coming off on 69 minutes. Indeed, fans have criticised Harrison for his outing against Liverpool with Everton unlikely to sign Harrison permanently at the end of the season.

During commentary with Sky Sports, Gary Neville hammered the £11m Leeds man for a moment in the loss to Liverpool. Boss Moyes was also fuming, throwing his arms in the air as Harrison wasted a chance.

“His quality’s been poor, Harrison. Maybe he didn’t get an obvious option, but still should have done better than that,” Neville summarised during Sky Sports’ commentary as Diogo Jota scored the winner.

Jack Harrison was officially the worst player on the pitch

Not a good night for Harrison who will now surely lose his starting spot in the Everton starting line-up. According to stats website FotMob, Harrison was the worst player on the pitch of those that started.

Indeed, Harrison was given a 5.8 FotMob rating – less than any of the 22 players that started the game. It is remarkable that Moyes chose to keep him on the pitch right up until the final 20 minutes of the game.

Not only that, but Harrison completed just four passes on the night and lost all seven of his duels. If there was any indecision at Everton about keeping Harrison, Wednesday night showed why they simply cannot.
