Jamie Carragher’s loyalties may lie with Liverpool, but his previous allegiances to to Everton cannot be hidden.
The former defender is better known these days for his work as a pundit rather than his long playing career at Anfield.
Carragher covered Everton’s 1-0 Merseyside derby loss to Liverpool live for Sky Sports on Wednesday (2 April) evening.
And speaking ahead of the match, the Scouser was asked for his thoughts on Everton’s soon-to-open state-of-the-art stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Carragher raged at “shocking” footage shown live on Sky Sports during coverage of the match, but he was more composed when discussing Everton’s new stadium.

Asked by host Kelly Cates what he makes of the new stadium, Carragher summed it up nicely in just one word as he said: “Fantastic”.
In footage shared by Sky Sports on X (2 April), Carragher added: “I drive past it most days. This stadium is for Everton, but even if you’re in the city of Liverpool you look at it in awe.
“It’s great for Everton more importantly than anything, but for the city it also looks fantastic on the water. It’ll give them great hope.”
Everton can prepare for Premier League football at new ground
Carragher went on to point out that Everton have been focused for the past five years or so on just staying in the Premier League ahead of this move to a new ground.

In that regard he is correct. Even earlier this season, supporters were seriously fearful of dropping into the Championship for the first season in this new era.
That has not been a worry pretty much ever since David Moyes came on board, with Everton now looking up even after the loss to Liverpool at Anfield.
Those who have attended the test events so far can attest for how impressive the new ground is, and it will be packed every other week from the start of the 2025-26 campaign.
