Arsenal in ‘pole position’ to sign £19-G/A star, ready to table bid to seal the deal - report

Arsenal are reportedly leading the chase to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha, as per Caught Offside.

After displaying impressive performances for the West Midlands club, the Brazilian has been attracting the attention of several big English clubs ahead of the summer window.

He made 22 goal contributions in all competitions last term and has been in stellar form once again this campaign. In 26 starts in all competitions, the 25-year-old has scored 15 goals and registered four assists thus far.

Now, Caught Offside claim that although Vitor Pereira’s side recently handed him a fresh term, they are resigned to losing him this summer. Arsenal have registered their interest in signing the South American and are even ready to submit a formal proposal.

Cunha has a £62m[€75m] release clause in his current contract but Wolves are prepared to cash-in on him for a fee below that to allow their star man to take the next step in his career.

Cunha to Arsenal

Apart from the Gunners, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest are also keen on purchasing him but the Emirates club are in ‘pole position’ in this race due to Andrea Berta. Arsenal’s new sporting director already knows the player having previously worked together at Atletico Madrid.

Cunha is a versatile forward as he is comfortable playing in the flanks and the centre-forward position. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, has an eye for scoring goals from distance and is also efficient in taking set pieces.

Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli are the two options Mikel Arteta currently has for the left flank. But, the Belgian has entered his 30s and has been average this term.

On the other hand, Martinelli hasn’t been able to showcase his best in the Premier League either this season so purchasing a new wide forward to reinforce this area would be the right decision.

Cunha has proven his worth in the Premier League and is ready to take the next step in his career. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
