Gary Neville has issued a Premier League title race warning to Liverpool after their win over Everton. The Reds recorded a 1-0 win over the Blues in the final Merseyside derby of the season at Anfield on Wednesday night.

After a goalless first half, Diogo Jota scored the winning goal just before the hour-mark to secure the three points for Liverpool. The win moved the Reds back to 12 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table, having seen their advantage temporarily reduced to nine points for 24 hours.

Victory over Everton means that Liverpool need just a maximum of 13 points from their final eight matches to be crowned Premier League champions. Their next fixture will see them travel to face Fulham over the weekend, while Arsenal will go away to Everton a day earlier.

Neville has explained what he liked most about Liverpool's performance against Everton, and sent a message about what the Reds players might be thinking after the victory in the Merseyside derby, as well as a warning about the title race.

"It wasn't spectacular from Liverpool, but that wasn't the most important thing tonight," said Neville on Sky Sports.

"They were really professional, particularly after they scored the goal, I thought they were outstanding.

"I think they've done that quite a few times this season where they've kept the ball really well, managed the game, and Everton couldn't really get any momentum.

"The most important thing was the three points just after what happened a couple of weeks ago [against Newcastle in Carabao Cup final].

"It would have been a long couple of weeks for the Liverpool players, for Arne Slot, but tonight they'll go into that dressing room and know that they're nearly there and it'll be about making sure they don't make mistakes now."
