Gary Neville delivered a withering critique of Jack Harrison's performance in the Merseyside derby. The Leeds United loanee struggled to make an impact for Everton and was subbed off midway through the second half.
Utilised on the right flank in the Toffees 4-2-3-1 formation, Harrison was easily shackled and Sky Sports pundit Neville criticised the winger's end product after wasting a goal-scoring opportunity. “His quality’s been poor, Harrison. Maybe he didn’t get an obvious option, but still should have done better than that," Neville said on commentary.
It has been a difficult season for Harrison. He has proven a source of constant criticism for Everton fans this season, having only contributed one goal and zero assists.
Despite Harrison's struggles, boss David Moyes has continued to select him. The 28-year-old has started the Toffees' last seven Premier League fixtures as Moyes has steered them clear of trouble.
Leaders Liverpool claimed bragging rights on Merseyside after a second half strike from Diogo Jota. Victory edged them a step closer to the title. Arne Slot's men require only 13 points from a possible 24 available to seal a record-equalling 20th top-flight triumph.
"I liked much more what I saw here than the away game," said Slot. "I could feel that we were getting closer, but there's a reason they hardly ever concede a goal or a chance.
"They bring so many bodies back, and they have players who are so good at blocking shots. We knew if we wanted to win this game we had to keep a clean sheet. To score more than one goal would have been very hard."
