Barcelona’s hard-fought victory against Atletico Madrid has brought them within touching distance of claiming the Copa del Rey trophy.
However, their final hurdle remains a daunting one—defeating arch-rivals Real Madrid in the much-anticipated final.
While the excitement of reaching the final is undoubtedly a significant achievement, there is another appealing aspect of the competition that Barcelona cannot ignore: the financial rewards.
Financial incentives for Copa del Rey success
According to SPORT, the economic prize for winning the Copa del Rey is nothing to scoff at.
Though the official figures for this year’s edition are yet to be confirmed, it is estimated that the champion will receive approximately €1.2 million, while the runner-up will secure around €1 million.
Even for clubs that merely participated in the tournament, the financial boost is notable, with each First Division team receiving €660,000. This means if Barcelona win the Cup, they would earn a total of €1.8 million from the competition.
In addition to these rewards, the Spanish Federation distributes €33 million in revenue generated from television rights to the clubs participating in the competition.

The allocation of this sum is divided in a way that heavily favours professional football teams, who receive 90% of the amount—equivalent to €29.7 million.
The remaining 10% is designated for amateur football and its participants in the Copa del Rey.
Among the professional clubs, those competing in La Liga benefit the most. From the €29.7 million reserved for professional football, 90% is allocated to First Division clubs, which translates to €26.73 million.
This amount is then divided equally among the 20 teams in La Liga, providing a valuable financial boost to each club.
Barcelona’s Copa del Rey dominance
Meanwhile, it is important to highlight that Barcelona have established themselves as the most successful club in Copa del Rey history, having lifted the trophy a remarkable 31 times.
However, their record against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey finals is an area they are eager to improve.
While the financial rewards are significant, the prestige of winning another trophy and enhancing their record against Real Madrid is equally important for the Blaugrana.
A victory in the final would not only bring in valuable revenue but also reaffirm Barcelona’s dominance in Spanish football.
