Manchester United loanee slammed for being a“bad purchase”just three months after January move

One Manchester United loanee has already been judged as a “bad purchase” after just three months into his European loan move.

In the January transfer window, Manchester United signed Patrick Dorgu from Serie A side Lecce.

The Danish left-back has impressed in his short spell at the club, but the same cannot be said for the man he replaced on the left side of defence.

Tyrell Malacia was sent on loan after the signing of Dorgu, with the Dutchman needing minutes after spending over 500 days out injured.

Since his move back to the Eredivisie, Malacia has failed to regain his pre-injury form and has been individually blamed for the team’s losses.

PSV boss blames Ajax defeat on Malacia

Despite their high league position, PSV have won just two games in the last seven games in all competitions. Many viewers put this down to their poor defence, including the former manager Aad de Mos.

Speaking with Eindhovens Dagblad, de Mos said, “I have been saying from day one that the PSV goalkeeper is involved in too many goals. He does not score any points. As PSV, you do not have to let a goalie who does not want to extend your contract hold a knife to your throat.”

Later in the interview, he turned his attention to United’s loanee. “In addition, Malacia is a bad purchase. He gives Traoré a free pass to score. The fullback positions at PSV are not filled in properly anyway, after the departure of Teze.”

The former Feyenoord defender may only be there until the summer, but this criticism won’t help the defender in his return to consistent football.

Malacia’s future lies away from United

While it hasn’t been confirmed, Malacia should move away from Manchester this summer for the good of his career.

United already have Luke Shaw and Dorgu as first-team options, they also remain linked to Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez as well as other options.

Harry Amass is another left-back option, recently making his debut against Leicester City in the 3-0 victory. Diego Leon has been signed and will join in the summer, another young defender who will play as the left-sided wingback for Amorim.

Malacia needs to play regular football after being out for over a year due to injury, and a move away from United seems to be his best option.
