Manchester United wants their legendary goalkeeper, David de Gea, back under Ruben Amorim to replace his failed successor, Andre Onana. Onana succeeded De Gea under former manager Erik ten Hag but failed to live up to the Red Devils’ expectations.
The Cameroon goalkeeper has made numerous high-profile errors during his tenure with the club, facing constant criticism for his performances. Meanwhile, De Gea joined Fiorentina during the summer of 2024 after staying as a free agent in the 2023-24 season.
Man United are currently 13th in the Premier League table with a near-impossible chance of reaching the European qualification spot. However, the Red Devils could qualify for the Champions League if they manage to win the Europa League this season.

On 11th April, Man United will play the French club Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals. Meanwhile, De Gea has played a pivotal role for Fiorentina, keeping 10 clean sheets from 30 matches in all competitions.
According to Fichajes, United want De Gea to replace Onana under Amorim as they intend to rectify Ten Hag’s mistakes. De Gea is available as a free agent once again if Man United can convince the Spaniard to join them.
De Gea’s return could potentially divide the fanbase as the majority would welcome their legend back but the 34-year-old struggled for many of the latter seasons at the club, something that fans still remember.
However, the financial issues surrounding the club could limit them in the transfer market, making De Gea a good choice. Meanwhile, Onana remains a first-choice goalkeeper under Amorim for now despite the club’s struggle with consistency.
