Everton were beaten 1-0 by fierce rivals Liverpool as tempers flared over the controversial Diogo Jota winner.
Everton were handed only their second Premier League defeat under David Moyes as Jota scored the winner in the 57th minute to seal the game for the Reds.
However, the build-up to the Liverpool goal was controversial as Luis Diaz was offside and involved in the goal but the referee did not rule it out.
Everton boss Moyes was unhappy at the goal not being ruled out and shared his frustration after the match.

Moyes ‘incensed’ after Liverpool loss
In the build-up to the goal, Diaz was offside and when Ryan Gravenberch played the ball to him, James Tarkowski was forced to intervene.

Jota then collected the loose ball and played a one-two with Diaz before getting past a number of blue bodies to score the winner at Anfield.
Despite the controversial nature of the goal, a VAR check did not take place as the referee did not think Diaz was not in a position to impact Tarkowski’s ability to play the ball.

The former West Ham United manager was ‘incensed’ at the contentious Liverpool goal. He said that he was disappointed that the goal stood despite Diaz clearly being offside.
After the match, Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas said on X (2 April) that Moyes was “incensed” and shared what the Scotsman told him about the contentious issue in question.
“He is offside. I have not sought an explanation but I have said to [the officials] that I am disappointed,” Moyes is quoted as saying.
“It was an easy one to give as well because all our players were holding the 18-yard line and Diaz comes from behind and affects Tarky clearing it. I’m really surprised it wasn’t given – or maybe I am not surprised.”

Tricky run of fixtures ahead for Everton
Everton have managed to distance themselves from the drop zone as they sit 14 points clear of Ipswich Town, who are 18th and in the relegation places.
However, the job isn’t done yet and Everton are yet to secure safety mathematically. Moyes’ side have tricky run of fixtures ahead with trips to Manchester City and Chelsea, who are fighting for a Champions League spot, but before that, the Toffees host Arsenal at Goodison Park.
The next four games will see the Merseysiders face four of the top six sides, making it an extremely difficult run of fixtures.
If Everton fail to pick up points in the upcoming fixtures, they could land themselves in a relegation scrap once again with the likes of Ipswich and Wolves winning their respective fixtures, although that does seem unlikely at this stage.
